Director of Music

    Dr. Victor Shen is a very longtime TAFPC congregation member. He joined TAFPC since 1979 (before TAFPC was officially formed at Kingston, NJ), and was elected as a church Elder in 1981. Victor was the first Music Director from 1980 till 1992 at TAFPC. He coordinated the Great Taiwanese American Festival Chorus in 1984, and he held many benefits concerts while being the Music Director at TAFPC. Victor went back to Taiwan to pursue his teaching career from 1992 to 2004. In 1996, Victor went to University of Maryland for an advanced music study. He even took the advantage of the residency that  he led TAFPC handbell choir and youth choir tour from Maryland and Canada. 

 

   Victor has taught in school, church and university settings, working with youth, children and adults. He recently returned to the US from Taiwan, where he was on the music faculty at Tung Hai University (東海大學), Music Director of the National Taiwan University (台灣大學) Chorus in Taipei and host of weekly radio program that showcased choral music. He is founding director and conductor of several community choirs in Taiwan including the New Era Choral Society, winner of a government grant for excellence in arts and performance three years in a row. Dr. Shen holds advanced degrees from Westminster Choir College and the University of Maryland. He is the former conductor of Bel Canto Opera Chorus, NYC and has conducted the Taiwanese American Festival Chorus at Avery Fisher Hall. Dr. Shen serves as guest conductor and lecturer for professional conferences in Asia as well as the United States.
