Question 1:  1 Kings 19:9-18

Elijah underwent the most remarkable spiritual transformation at Mt.Horeb (Mt. Sinai). This transformation process was marked with the same question from God spoke to him twice, once in the beginning of verse 9, the other at the end of verse 13. The question was: " What are you doing here, Elijah?" His answer was also the same. What happened in between? When we experience "spiritual drought" in our journey of life, what can we say to God if God asks us the same question. "What are you doing here?"

Question 2:  1 Kings 17:8-16

When the widow of Zaraphath met Elijah, she thought she was preparing her last meal. But an act of faith and love produced a miracle. Do you ever have this kind of experience when you face the same situation as this widow?  If yes, please share your thought. If not, what can we learn from the story.  Please share your thought too..

Question 3:  1 Kings 18:20 - 18:40

The contest between the Lord's prophet Elijah and Baal's ones at Mount Camel was portrayed similar to a drama in which the prophets played rivals and the Israelis were the audience watching.

In the beginning, the audiences were passive, not willing to take a side to be complicated (v. 21).

Elijah took initiative to interest the audience, proposing to have a contest with Baal's prophets in order to show which god was the real God (v 23 - 24).

Elijah gathered the audience and reminded them their own "true name" when he was repairing the altar for the Lord (v 30 - 31).  Not giving help, the audience at that point was still only watching Elijah's action. Then Elijah began to ask them to help set up the equipments for the contest (v 33 -34).

Finally, the audience witnessed the miracle God through Elijah had performed and was moved to claim their own faith in the Lord (v 39).

In our journey of faith, do we often wait for a leader/ a priest to lead us rather than take initiative to act like a leader based on the spirit of the Reform tradition?  What causes the passiveness?  Please share your opinions.
