Question 1:  1 Samuel 21: 1-6      Matthew 12: 1-8

David and his men ate the holy bread, which was in violation of the ritual rules. In Gospel according to Matthew, Jesus and his disciples pluck heads of grain to eat on Sabbath, which also violated the ritual law. How did Jesus answer the Pharisees when they charged His disciples not lawful? How can we apply His interpretation/teaching to our daily live?

Question 2:  1 Samuel 21: 1-6        Also 13: 8-14

In such incidence of breaking ritual law, the scripture gives us some details (seemly trivial but important) describing the different attitude between these two Kings toward God’s instruction. Please compare what Samuel said to Saul vs. Ahimelech to David and how each King responded. How do we draw a line between twisting the law to meet our need(or even survival) vs. faithfully obeying God’s law?

Question 3:  1 Samuel 23: 6 Exodus 28: 6-10

Question 4:  1 Samuel 25: 2-42

This paragraph depicted the first encounter between David and Abigail. The text can
also be read as a romance story that narrates a wonderful wife in a disappointing marriage to a foolish and selfish husband as the background. With her wits, Abigail managed to make peace between Nabal and David. However when Abigail told Nabal what she did, his heart died within him and he became like a stone, died ten days later. She then accepted David as her new husband. When we read the relationship among Abigail, Nabal, and David, isn’t it interesting to try to sort out who was the "bad" vs. "good" guy?  Please share your interpretations based on the scripture.

Question 5:  1 Samuel 24, 25, 26

Saul Pursued David and tried to kill him. But David spared Saul's life repeatedly. In Carmel, Nabal refused to follow David’s instruction only once. Then 25:21-22. David was already furious, brought about four hundred men along with their swords and wanted to leave no male in Nabal’s camp. David treated Saul and Nabal very differently. Is he fair? As Christians, how should we treat our enemy and adversaries?  Please share your thoughts.
