Question 1:
1 Timothy 2: 11-15
The author of this letter clearly rejected women of his time to teach or
preach. This is one example of challenges we face when reading Bible and
applying its wisdom to our daily life. Are we to insist on "obeying the
teaching of Bible" and deny the female from becoming a clergy or elder; or
are we to clarify our definition of "the Authority of the Bible"?
Question 1:
1Timothy 4: 4-5, 6:7-10, 17-19, Luke 18:22
We live in a capitalistic society. Money is an essential element of our
life. We seem to devote major portion of our time and energy in our daily
life to work for money. In Greco-Roman era, members of early churches lived
in Asian Minor, earning money was an essential task for their lives, too.
One noted author counted roughly 2,350 verses concerning money in the Bible.
In the scripture verses here, Jesus and writer of Pastoral letters seem to
have a different approach in addressing to wealthy people. Is pursuing money
or wealth a (necessary?) evil in modern society? Is there conflict between
holiness and pursuing money or wealth? As a Christian what is your
perspective in terms of this issue? Please share your thoughts.
