Question 1: Jeremiah 42 The few remnants of Israelites first came to Jeremiah asking for his intercession prayer and oracle.
When they received the word of God from Jeremiah instruct them to take risks that are against
conventional wisdom, they backed off. This greatly angered God again. The Israelites appeared to
have already made up their minds on the issue of to exile or to stay because of the fear of revenges
by Babylonians even though they told Jeremiah the prophet, "You go and ask God whether it's right for us to do this or not. And whatever He tells you, we'll do it."? When you were desperate, in fear,
and in a cross road of deciding which way to go, how do you pray for God’s guidance? And if you
did receive God's call which is contrary to what you like, what would you do? Do you ask the question
of how do I know I choose the correct destination--to Babylon or to Egypt? Please share your thought.
Baruch had been sent down to the temple to read the words of the Lord, and this passage is telling us what he evidently felt in his own heart. He expected that his reading would have a tremendous impact upon the people, and that he himself would be exalted before them as the spokesman of God, and would be lifted up in their eyes. But it did not work that way. Instead, they rejected the words and they rejected Baruch. He went home feeling terrible about it, feeling that his whole ministry was useless. And he cried out to God this way: (see Verse 3). So God sent Jeremiah to him with this message: (see Verse 4). Did you ever have the same feeling as Baruch had when you were trying very hard to serve in our church and in our community? What is the root of Baruch’s feeling? What does God’s message sent to Barush through Jeremiah mean to you? Please share your thoughts.
