Question 1:  Joshua 20

Through Moses and Joshua, God instructed the Israeli people to define a few cities to be the places of refuge that hosted the ones mistakenly committed killing. Before investigating to clarify the incidents with open trials, the suspects enjoyed the exemption from immediate revenges. Some readers interpret this mechanism of conflict resolution based on modern sense of human right.  Do you agree to such an interpretation?

If yes, please explain your reasons about why the sense of human right existed then.

If not, what might other functions can this mechanism serve?  What mechanism can we build in our own church to resolve possible conflicts, if happening, between the church members?

Question 2: Joshua 22

What lesson can we learn from this chapter regarding how to accept the faith of others who decided to "build their own altar"?

Question 3: Joshua 24:21-24

At his final days of leader, Joshua repeatedly reminded Israelis the faithfulness of the Lord.  He also realized that the difficulty to keep all the covenants in the newly acquired land, but he declared clearly that "But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD".
Didn't we face the similar situation in North America? How can we be the witness to the love of Jesus Christ? How can we stand up and take a spiritual lead in the house first?

Question 4: Joshua 24

"Separation of Church and State" is a form of promise of freedom of religion from the US Constitution.  We are facing a confusing world out there with different religious teachings, and they are all equally protected by the Constitution.

We need to be more alert to adhere to our steadfast belief in God like Joshua did.  How can we stand steadfast to our belief in Christ like Joshua had said: "But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD" ?
