Question 1:  Nehemiah 7:61-65

After the completion of the new Jerusalem city wall, Governor Nehemiah ordered a census and started appointing the returned Israelites to positions within his government organization. One of the criteria he used was the "Genealogy" as shown in these verses. Some people were excluded from priesthood because they were not born in the "correct" families. Today we no longer honor such "blue blood" rules in calling people to be God's servants, however, we might have observed some other ways to discriminate or discourage people from joining the church leadership?

Question 2: Nehemiah chapter 13.

This chapter records Nehemiah's final reforms to the religious life of the returned exiles. The issues involved were governmental interference to implement the consecration of the use of temple storerooms, fair and consistent distribution of the supply to the temple workers, observance of Sabbath, and disapproval of inter-racial marriage. Exclusion and separation were applied and justified in the name of reformation.  Today in the U.S. the federal government also interferes, but in the opposite direction, to keep religious practice out of the public arena and to enforce desegregation in the public schools. Some Christians argue that this policy forces them to mingle with the different people and the life styles they want to be separated from. What's your personal opinion about this policy and the controversy? Please share your consideration without judgment.

Question 3: Ezra 7:6, Nehemiah 1:11, 8:1-2, 13:1-30.

Ezra came up from Babylon. He was a teacher/scribe/priest well versed in the Law of Moses. Nehemiah was a Hebrew in Persia and was cupbearer to the king and later became a governor, a lay person. The book of Ezra depicts the effort of the Building of the Second Temple and The Ministry of Ezra. The book of Nehemiah tells the story of building of the wall to protect the city and the task of pulling the people to have communal pledge, teaching them to adhere the law of God and reestablish true worship through prayer and by encouraging the people to revival by reading and adhering the Word of God. The stories show that God didn't leave Ezra or Nehemiah to do this single-handedly; he gave them substantial and critical help by working together. Because of the joint efforts of Ezra and Nehemiah, The People-of-God identity was recovered and preserved. What kind of working relationship that lay people and pastor should have in TAFPC in order to carry out our church missions? Please share your thoughts.
