James 1:26-27
If any think they are religious, and do not bridle their tongues but deceive
their hearts, their religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and
undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to care for orphans and widows
in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
Pray that we each have a
right heart and motive for going to NAOMI, that we would be humble and
as-a-servant in our hearts, and that we would have a generous heart amongst
each other as a missions team! Pray also that we prepare ourselves starting
today and have a right mind, and that as Jerome said in his e-mail that we
do not let coarse talk come from our mouths, especially in front of the
NAOMI kids, and that instead only words of encouragement and building up be
on our lips.

Matthew 6:25-34
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or
drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important
than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of
the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your
heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who
of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow.
They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his
splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the
grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the
fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not
worry, saying, "What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink? or 'What shall
we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly
Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his
righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about
itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
As we approach our week of missions at NAOMI, some of us are probably a
little bit worried about things. Whether it's that everything will go ok
with the flights and travel, or wanting to have the whole week plotted and
planned out in every detail, or maybe wondering and worrying that we won't
know what to say or do with the kids! Or even ... not being sure how to
pack everything into the carry-on especially that big puffy sleeping bag!
Let's pray to God to give each of us a trusting heart, to trust that He is
watching over and guiding us on this trip. That He will give us the words
and the heart to work with and fellowship with the kids at NAOMI. That He
will make and smooth the way in every detail from the flight to the vans and
the drive, to getting supplies for the first few days. And that He will
protect us both physically, and spiritually!

Colossians 3:12
"As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion,
kindness, humility, meekness, and patience."
Matthew 13:15-16
"'For this people's heart has grown dull, and their ears are hard of
hearing, and they have shut their eyes; so that they might not look with
their eyes, and listen with their ears, and understand with their heart and
turn --
and I would heal them.'
But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear."
Let's pray that we would clothe ourselves in compassion, kindness, humility,
meekness, and patience. Let's pray that the people we encounter on this
trip, especially the children of NAOMI, would have eyes that see and ears
that hear; an open heart to God, and that we would witness as a lamp on a
lamp stand, shining our light before others. Let's pray that we ourselves
would turn toward God, and see and hear Him around us and in us.
